Loftia Character Creation: Customization Options

Quick answer: Loftia character creation is not gender-locked. The official FAQ answers it in one line: you will not have a set gender and you can customize your character however you like, and the Steam store page promises a super wide variety of options and aesthetics. You can build a Loftian in the October Steam Next Fest demo (October 19-26, 2026, which is October 20-27 in Beijing time), but the demo allows one character per account, and a name claimed there is held for you only if you log into Early Access between November 3, 2026 and February 3, 2027.

  • No gender lock. The FAQ reads "Nope! You won't have a set gender, and you'll be able to customize your character however you like."
  • No published option list. Body, face, hair and colour choices were never itemised, so any slider count on a forum is a community reading of the demo UI.
  • Hair movement is a real setting. Patch notes #1 fixed hair that looked stiff in cutscenes when hair movement is enabled.
  • One character per account in the demo. More characters become possible at Early Access on November 3, 2026 (1pm EST, 2am November 4 in Beijing time).
  • Your name expires February 3, 2027. After that, a demo-claimed name goes back into the pool.

What the official sources actually promise about customization

Source What it says What it means for your Loftian
Official FAQ "Is character customization gender locked? Nope! You won't have a set gender, and you'll be able to customize your character however you like." Free-form customization, no gender preset to pick from.
Official homepage, Express Yourself pillar "Create a character that feels fully like you, and design your home in the style you love. There's a super wide variety of different options and aesthetics for you to choose from!" Breadth of aesthetics, covering the home too.
Steam store page The same promise word for word: "Create a character that feels fully like you... There's a super wide variety of different options and aesthetics for you to choose from!" The pitch is on the storefront as well as the site.

The honest read: customization is a supported pillar described in adjectives, not a spec. The promise is yes, the catalogue is unpublished, so decide the name first. The Loftia beginner guide covers Loftia City once your character exists.

Character names: the rule that decides whether your name is safe

Rule Detail Source
One character per account in the demo "only one character per account can be created during the demo." Demo announcement, Oct 19, 2026
Names carry over "Your Loftian character name will also be carried over into Early Access." Demo announcement and official demo page
Names expire Claim a name in the demo, skip Early Access between November 3, 2026 and February 3, 2027, and the name "will be made available for other players to claim." Official demo page and demo announcement
Link your account to keep it Link your loftia.gg account in-game with your email, or the developers "will not be able to recover any rewards or progress made during the demo." Demo announcement
Names are entered on the login screen Patch notes #1 fixed "long character-name error messages not wrapping on the login screen." Demo patch notes #1
Name release date: February 3, 2027

A name claimed in the demo is yours only if you log into Early Access inside the three-month window between November 3, 2026 and February 3, 2027. Outside it, the name is released for other players to claim, and no published process lets you reclaim it. Link your loftia.gg account with your email at the same time, because the carry-over and the demo rewards run through that account. See the demo progress guide.

Two things follow. Renaming later is not a documented feature, so treat the first name as final. And the account link is not paperwork: the same announcement says unlinked progress cannot be recovered, and the demo rewards (Demo Banner, Pebble Chair, Pebble Couch) run through that account.

What patch notes #1 changed about your character

Patch notes #1 entry (October 21, 2026) What it tells you about character creation
"Fixed the player's hair appearing stiff in cutscenes when hair movement is enabled." Hair movement is a switch you can turn on, and the stiff look was live in the demo's first days.
"Added hover and click sounds to more character customization buttons." The screen needed an audio pass, and it was not complete: more buttons, not all of them.
"Fixed long character-name error messages not wrapping on the login screen." Loftia validates names and shows an error, and long names used to overflow the login screen.

Read together, these lines say customization is a live system with its own UI, audio, animation setting and bug list. The rest of the patch list is in the known issues guide.

A silent button is not always a broken button

Patch notes #1 added sounds to more customization buttons, not all of them. If a control feels dead, recheck the same screen after the patch.

Creating a Loftian with a controller or on Steam Deck

Your name is typed on the login screen, where the official known-issues list has controller entries.

Known issue (official news page, updated October 21, 2026) What you will hit while naming your character
Login screen server selection "The Select Region Button isn't highlighting correctly when selected with a Gamepad, but will function."
Exiting Loftia "You currently can't quit Loftia from the Login Screen with gamepad. You can exit Loftia from the in world menu."
Gamepad and mouse conflicts Mixing keyboard, mouse and pad can leave the Loftia cursor visible; click into the Loftia window to re-enable the pad.
Settings navigation On a gamepad you must use the D-Pad to navigate and adjust settings. The thumbsticks are unsupported.

Two official positions on controller support have not been reconciled: the Steam store category lists Loftia as Partial Controller Support, while the official FAQ states Loftia "is fully playable with controller / gamepad, in addition to keyboard and mouse, and also supports the Steam Deck." Treat the store tag as shipping metadata and the FAQ as the developer's intent. The controls and gamepad guide has the breakdown.

Outfits, the Express Yourself pillar, and what you cannot buy

The official press kit carries dedicated costume artwork, with layered fantasy outfits and colour swatches, the clearest published signal of the range's direction.

The paid layer is narrow and arrives with Early Access. The Backer Boutique sells outfits, furniture, pet accessories and styles, and visual effects, all cosmetic only, and the official Early Access page is explicit that Loftia will not have gacha mechanics. Nothing there changes what your character can do.

Spend What it is Status
Backer Boutique outfits, furniture, pet accessories and styles, visual effects Cosmetic only, no gameplay effect, no gacha Announced for Early Access on November 3, 2026
Individual item prices Never published Not announced
Community Pass Optional; unlocks extra cosmetic rewards from World Projects, which do not expire for late joiners Announced for Early Access on November 3, 2026

Building your Loftian is part of the base game; boutique outfits are the optional layer. The community pass and boutique guide covers that spend and why gacha was ruled out.

What the developers have not published yet

Question Status as of the October 2026 Steam Next Fest demo
Full list of body, face, hair and colour options Not published. The store page promises a wide variety; no itemised list exists.
Whether you can edit your Loftian after creating it Not published in either direction
Whether you can rename a character later Not published
Name length and character rules Not published. Patch notes #1 only confirm an error message exists.
Whether one name works across Steam and Epic Cross-play is still under evaluation, and the FAQ states you must buy the game on each platform you play it on

Because almost nothing is itemised, treat any list of sliders, hairstyles or colours on a forum as a community reading of the demo UI, and check it against the build at launch.

FAQ

Can I change my Loftian's gender in Loftia? There is no gender to change. The FAQ answer is "Nope! You won't have a set gender, and you'll be able to customize your character however you like." You are not picking between a male and a female preset.

Will my character name be released if I do not play at launch? Yes, if you claimed it during the Next Fest demo (October 19-26, 2026) and did not log into Early Access between November 3, 2026 and February 3, 2027. The official demo page states the name "will be made available for other players to claim."

Can I create more than one character? Not during the demo. One character per account can be created while it is live; more become possible at Early Access on November 3, 2026.

Do I have to link my loftia.gg account to keep my name? Link it in-game with your email address. Without a linked account the developers cannot recover any rewards or progress from the demo, and the name carry-over and demo rewards run through that account.
