Loftia pets arrive in Early Access on November 3, 2026: rescue and adopt, then care for, pet, dress up and bond with capybaras, turtles and more.
Loftia Pets: Adoption, Care and Companions
Loftia pets arrive with Early Access on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST, which is 2am on November 4 in Beijing time, and they are not in the demo. The demo's own Steam page says it outright: "You'll be able to own pets in Early Access!" Until then the capybaras and turtles in the trailers are previews of a system the developers describe in one sentence: adopt the cutest and cuddliest pets who join you on your journey, then take care of them, pet them, dress them up and grow your friendship with them.
That promise is about companionship, not collection.
- Pets are an Early Access feature, listed as such on the official Early Access page.
- No pet can be owned in the demo. Its Steam page states: "You'll be able to own pets in Early Access!"
- Four official verbs: take care of them, pet them, dress them up, and grow your friendship with them.
- Two species named: capybaras and turtles, plus "other unique species" the developers never list.
- No numbers at all: adoption cost, species count, pet limit, friendship thresholds and spawn locations are undisclosed.
What the official Early Access page actually promises
The Pets entry on the official Early Access page is the only first-party description of the system: "Adopt the cutest and cuddliest pets who will join you on your journey throughout Loftia! You can take care of them, pet them, dress them up, and grow your friendship with them."
Official source: Loftia Early Access
Read it as four separate systems, because the developers list four separate verbs. That is the difference between a pet and a costume.
| Official verb | What the source confirms | What it does not say |
|---|---|---|
| Adopt | Pets join you on your journey throughout Loftia | How adoption triggers, what it costs, how many you can hold |
| Take care of them | Feeding and upkeep exist as a loop | What a pet needs, whether care items are consumable |
| Pet them | Physical interaction with the animal is in the game | Which input triggers it, whether it affects a stat |
| Dress them up | Outfits for pets exist | Where the wardrobe is, whether some outfits are paid |
| Grow your friendship | Friendship with a pet is a progression track | Whether it has levels, thresholds or unlocks |
There is no species list, no care item list, no friendship scale and no adoption price. Any page quoting those numbers before November 3, 2026 is inventing them.
Rescue and adopt, not buy and collect
The official homepage frames the feature under the heading "Adopt a Cute Companion", and the Steam store page carries the same sentence: "Rescue and adopt animals to join you on your journey, from capybaras and turtles to other unique species. Bring them along, dress them up, and let them keep you company as you explore the world."
Official source: Loftia official site Official source: Loftia on Steam
Rescue means the animal is found and taken in rather than bought from a vendor. Adopt means taking responsibility for something that is not yours. A collection system is about completing a list, and completion is a state you reach and stop; a care system asks you to keep showing up, which is why the developers lead with the four verbs rather than with a roster.
The one pet-related thing you can pay for is cosmetic. The Backer Boutique sells outfits, furniture, pet accessories and styles, and visual effects, and the developers state those items will not affect gameplay and that Loftia will not have gacha mechanics. No source says adopting a pet costs anything, and no source says it is free, so treat adoption pricing as unannounced. The Loftia Community Pass and Backer Boutique guide covers the shop in full.
If you are planning your spend, the outfit side of pets is the part with something concrete behind it. Everything else about pet ownership is still open as of the October 2026 Steam Next Fest demo.
Why the demo has no pet for you to adopt
The demo is deliberately narrow. It covers the Loftia City opening questline, stops right before you reach Hanging Gardens, and its store page tells you plainly: "You'll be able to own pets in Early Access!" Adoption is not something the demo lets you complete, so if you sit down expecting an adoption screen or a starter animal, you are hunting a feature that does not exist yet.

What the demo does give you is the rest of the foundation. Farm, craft, decorate, salvage, take on adventures and socialise in Loftia City, and everything you complete carries into Early Access along with your character name. The Loftia Demo Progress and What Carries Over guide covers the conditions, including the three-month window in which a name claimed during the demo can be released to another player.
Capybaras appear in the release trailer footage and the official feature art, and the demo's own description promises pets at Early Access. Neither means you can rescue one in the demo. The demo period ends on October 26, 2026; pet ownership starts when the Early Access servers open on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST.
Pet species confirmed so far
Two animals have been named by the developers in text, and one character sits close to the feature without being announced as adoptable.
| Animal | Status | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Capybara | Named as an adoptable species | Official homepage and Steam store description |
| Turtle | Named as an adoptable species | Official homepage and Steam store description |
| "Other unique species" | Promised but unnamed | Official homepage and Steam store description |
| Chinchilla (Pebble) | Loftia's resident chinchilla, named as a character | Official developer blog, November 2022 |

The trailer frames put the capybara at the centre of the game's tone: a calm animal riding in a hot air balloon basket, or running past other players on a plaza boardwalk without breaking stride. That reads as a pet sharing your space rather than a combat unit fighting beside you, which matches the companion wording on the Early Access page. It is still an inference from marketing footage, so treat travel behaviour as unconfirmed until you see it in game.
Pebble, the chinchilla the community named
Pebble is the closest thing to a named pet character Loftia has published. The November 2022 developer blog introduces him: "Pebble is Loftia's resident chinchilla and he's super proud that his name came directly from our community (there was a very close race against another name: Puffington)." The post also credits the artist Felysia and mentions the beret he wears.
Official source: Loftian Skies, November 2022
Three things follow. Pebble's name came from a community vote, which tells you how the studio handles anything a player can name. He is described as a resident, not as an animal waiting to be rescued, so nobody has said whether he will ever appear as an adoptable pet. And he is still shipping: patch notes #1, published on October 21, 2026, fixed duplicate Pebble and Cliff characters appearing during the crack-reveal cutscene, so Pebble is present in the demo as a scripted character.
Pebble also anchors the community side of the game. The first World Project in the demo was a birthday party for Pebble, and Early Access adds larger projects including rebuilding the Loftia City Dome. The demo rewards are themed around him too, with a Pebble Chair for inviting one friend and a Pebble Couch for two, which the Loftia World Projects guide covers alongside the rest. Pebble is not one of the fifteen residents on the official site, so the Loftia NPC and Character List covers the human cast these animals keep company with.

What to do before the servers open
Loftia is buy-to-play with a US base price of $29.99 and a 17 percent launch discount bringing it to $24.89, with regional pricing available; the Loftia Price Guide has the numbers. Wishlisting and pre-registering earn in-game rewards, and the practical prep list, including your server and your character name, sits in the Loftia Release Date and Early Access Prep Guide. If you have not played the demo yet, the Loftia Beginner Guide covers the first session, including the tool wheel that gates seeds you cannot otherwise find in your bag, and the Loftia City Guide covers the only district open in the demo.
FAQ
When can I get a pet in Loftia? Pet ownership starts with Early Access on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST, which is 2am on November 4 in Beijing time. The official Early Access page lists Pets as one of the features coming at launch, and the demo store page confirms that owning pets is an Early Access feature rather than a demo one.
Can I adopt a pet in the demo? No. The Steam page for the demo says "You'll be able to own pets in Early Access!" You can see animals in the world and in the trailers, but there is no adoption flow to complete before November 3, 2026.
Do I have to pay to adopt a Loftia pet? No official source says adoption costs anything, and no official source says it is free. The only pet items the developers describe in their own words are the cosmetic pet accessories and styles sold in the Backer Boutique, which they state do not affect gameplay and carry no gacha mechanic.
How many pets can I own, and do they follow me around? Unknown. The official wording is that pets join you on your journey throughout Loftia and let them keep you company as you explore the world, but no limit, no follow behaviour and no ownership cap has been published. Pets carry the least published detail of anything on the Early Access list.
Is Pebble a pet I can adopt, and do pets affect gameplay? Pebble is described in the official developer blog as Loftia's resident chinchilla whose name came from a community vote against the runner-up name Puffington. He is a character first, and the developers have never announced him as an adoptable species. On gameplay, the pet loop is described entirely as care, petting, dressing up and friendship, and the only pet-related purchases are cosmetic.
